The original Warhol 1962 piece, "32 Campbell's Soup Cans," is composed of
thirty-two 20" x 16" canvases each screen printed with one flavor of
each soup offered at the time. Although it initially confused the general
public with its representation of mundane commercial products, that confusion ultimately
opened up a larger art world conversation about the purpose of art. Over the past years Campbell's reported that sales have dwindled and now is looking to the Warhol branding to increase sales. It works for me! I have my parents and a friend running all over the suburban Target's to get them. (No stores in NYC, that are close.)
The Warhol cans are being released in conjunction with a new
line of Campbell's Soup. Touted by some news outlets as "Hipster Soups,"
the new flavors such as Moroccan Style Chicken with Chickpeas and Creamy Red
Pepper with Smoked Gouda are meant to appeal to those 20-30-somethings of
"restless spirits with
adventurous tastes." Now I've seen everything...
Have a look at the collectors cans, worth the trip friends!
And now on to waiting for the Warhol/NARS makeup collection due out November 1, 2012. Who's going to get in line with me for this on?
