"Cafe des Artistes" by Tom Sanford Colorfully Highlights Extraordinary NY'ers!

I thought only Blek le Rat would be my big, highlight show recently during the regular Thursday evening gallery exhibits in Chelsea.  I was wrong, well, it was amazing of course, especially meeting Blek (see blog from last week) but, there was another exhibit I stumbled upon that was exceptional as well; Tom Sanford "Cafe des Artistes" at Kravets/Wehby.  New York is known for many things and one of them is a place where you're most likely to see a celebrity doing ordinary things.  That what this exhibit is about. It's a known fact that you can spot Woody Allen at his weekly clarinet set at Cafe Carlyle, (a tiny super club inside the Carlyle Hotel on Madison Avenue.)   Sanford's latest work is a series of New York genre paintings depicting scenes of extraordinary New Yorkers in the motion of every day life.  He captures, Tina Fey, Mayor Bloomberg, Woody Allen and more.

The show includes an awesome portrait of PAPER Magazine's Carlo McCormick called "The Bar on 2nd Ave," it was one of the photos featured in a write up by the magazine, (see portrait below.)  I'm sure many other publications will be picking up this vibrant, colorful series of works, just as New Yorkers are so, well, "vibrant & colorful!"
