The scene as the first arrive in line
Hanksy transformed this old space into a full street art and graffiti experience complete with a skate ramp decorated by top local artists, a Chinese massage parlor (yes), video games, a photo booth and a gallery. Top New York based artists such as UR New York, Cope, Claw Money, Elle, B.D. White, Col, Meres, Frank Ape, The Drif, Magdna Love, Clint Mario, Miss Zukie and many more decorated the backdrop and contributed to the "GAGosian Gallery" theme in the back space.Who is Hanksy you ask? As we all know the art world can take itself way to seriously, that's where Hanksy comes in. He is a street artist who is known for making a pun on the Banksy rat years ago, replacing its face with that of Tom Hanks (Banksy/Hanksy, get it?) He has covered the streets with puns in writing similar to Banksy's style, but with serious wit and humor, and who doesn't need that. Hanksy is now a huge brand, showing throughout the country and world spreading priceless yucks via celebrity-pun pieces. Best of all he brings much needed humor to the art world.
If you didn't see the show and installations or it was just too crowded, now is your chance, just look below....
