Art/Fashion Mix Fix: More Warhol At Uniqlo - Get It Now.

Love your art and fashion to mix?  I do, obviously.   Here is another great mix by the Andy Warhol Foundation + UNIQLO store.   The T-shirts and tanks for women and men are more than affordable with Uniqlo's great quality, most pieces run about $19.  (The Urban Outfitters + Love Me (Curtis Kulig) was also priced well, unfortunately but expected the recent Lisa Perry + Jeff Koons was not.)  Not sure how long these will be in stock, but take no chances and head over there this weekend to the Soho/Broadway, Fifth Ave., or 34th Street location. (Details below.)  Forgive the bad cell phone photography, you are NOT allowed to take photos in that place, luckily I was able to sneak these....
This was one of my favorites that I bought...

Yeah, but they didn't....

Thank You Andy Warhol. Period. (Iconic Photos & Info From The Exhibit at Benrimon Contemporary & Book by Catherine Johnson...

"What would Andy do?"  I've often asked myself that.  (Most artists have.)  One morning in January 2011, curator Catherine Johnson asked the same question in the midst of a national economic depression that was crippling the art world.  Andy's ethos inspired her (and myself), and out of this came a collective as to what started as a single inquiry, thus resulting in a truly personal biography of the most influential artist of our time.  (Andy has been my favorite artist since I knew what art was, it seems - as an artist as well, I'm certainly not alone!)

To accompany this recent tribute book on Warhol, Catherine Johnson curated a show extracting art from the book and also adding to it: gathering stories about the influence of Warhol could be "lifelong and worldwide project."  She plans to continue recording, observing and documenting the impact of Warhol on the lives and work of others.
The exhibit includes a unique mix of work from artists who contributed to the book, many names you'll recognize if you are a big Warhol fan as well; Bob Colacello, Brigid Berlin, Billy Name, Jerry Schatzberg, Jonas Mekas, Richard Prince, Ryan McGinness, Vik Muniz and Taylor Mead & Try Speegle.  Interviews in this notable book also include Jeffrey Deitch, Sylvia Miles, Liza Minnelli, Simon Doonan and Jamie Warhola to name a few.
(Most of this info is credited to Benrimon Contemporary/press release. See their website below for more info.)

Andy remembered at St. Patrick's Cathedral, public memorial, early April 1987.

You can find the book on Amazon.com as I beleive it is sold out at the gallery.
The opening is still on view, but hurry, closing on October 20, 2012. Visit Benrimon Contemporary at 514 W. 24th St., 2nd floor / www.bcontemporary.com.
Next up, Warhol news from the The Met. http://themetmuseum.org.
And....Warhol / NARS makeup collective at Sephora and soon; November 1, 2012 at Bloomingdale's.
Warhol.  Warhol.  Warhol.  The way I like it.

WARHOL Takes Over The World, Again! NARS & Target Get Ready For The Crowds....

Warhol is more popular than ever with this most recent NARS make up collection out November 1, 2012 which I will be in line for.  Look at these pieces, I will be buying ALL regardless if I want the make up or not.  But, I'm pretty sure I will since NARS is one of the best brand on the market.   And, as of this Sunday, the collectors edition Campbell's soup cans will be debuting at Target. Yes, it's actual soup, but I'll be saving / "collecting" mine. (There are four collector edition cans that will be lining the shelves along side all the regular red and white cans.) That's just the beginning this fall for Warhol this fall... Have a look at a recent article I found by Lily Nima (NY Times), on the NARS make up collection....

"Andy Warhol once proclaimed that “an artist is somebody who produces things that people don’t need to have,” a statement exemplified by his namesake foundation, which, in recent years, has allowed the artist’s work to be paired with everything from retail marketing initiatives (Barneys) to limited-edition luxury goods, ranging from accessories (Philip Treacy) to wine (Dom Perignon) and even skateboards (Alien Workshop). Noticeably missing from the portfolio, however, has been a beauty collaboration. Enter the Nars autumn/winter 2012 color collection.
Combining Warhol’s well-documented love of makeup with that of the brand founder and creative director, François Nars, the 29-piece offering aims to capture the spirit of Warhol — and his many muses, including Edie Sedgewick, Debbie Harry and Candy Darling — through more than just the use of recognizable imagery. “What I loved about [Warhol's] world was that he took elements from the past and made them his own. That’s what we have done with this collection — taken Andy’s ‘world’ and made it modern,” Nars explains. “The colors are also directly linked to the makeup.” This desire to project forward is evident throughout, with product development innovations abundant (like printed eye shadow palettes with every color filled through to the pan), as well as never-before-seen applications of Warhol’s works (including a “Kiss”-wrapped soup can) by the former Interview editorial director turned creative consultant Fabien Baron.
The collection arrives in stores in time for the 25th anniversary of the Pop artist’s passing, and will be released in two parts: core products on Oct. 1 at Sephora and holiday-focused kits and palettes onnarscosmetics.com on Nov. 1."
And, of course one of my most favorite street art photos ever I shot in February 2010 in the Meat Packing District by Mr. BrainWash.

Changing Pop Art Forever - Keith Haring Exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum, Don't Take My Word-GO SEE IT NOW!!

Art or Fashion?  This one's ART friends!  Next weeks posts will feature more on the blurry lines between art and fashion, such as Agnes B. photo printed clothing and Embroidery Art on original photographs from three amazing photographers / artists I found on Trendland.com.
But first....
... I finally went to the Keith Haring exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum  last weekend "Keith Haring: 1978–1982"  and was blown away by the over 300 images during this time period.  Back in the early 80's as I discovered art (at the very young age I might add.), Andy Warhol was my unwavering favorite.  And Keith Haring, and Basquiat, and anything Studio 54...well you get it.   Going to the Pop Shop in the mid 90's here in the city was also a huge treat.  This exhibit brings back the true NY spirit of Haring and introduces one to the many facets of his work.  It was fascinating to watch the videos of him painting in what can only be described as a methodical trance.   The exhibit also showcases his notebooks, photographs, and subway drawings, random books as well as his friendship with artists Jean-Michel Basquiat and Kenny Scharf.  I took almost one hundred photos and without any type of flash in the museum (which is not allowed) and most came out ok.  Don't let this (and the many other blogs reporting on Haring), stop you from seeing the exhibit, I'm going back again - that's how great it is.  One of my most favorites was seeing the hand written and typed flyers Keith made for his art events and art calls.  Oh how I wish I had one of those original flyers now!  It shows how things were done in back in the day, with a genuine passion and perseverance minus all the computer fluff.  Once you go, you'll know!

The many "art call" and club flyers Haring hand made that I speak of below....

If I found one of these it would be in a vault!

One of my most favorite images of Haring and Basquiat....

Just happened to catch this at the right time - get it... the heart, love...?
I met these guys on the way out... I saw this Basquiat shirt and had to stop him for a photo. Name; Jean Paul Fontanta who is a designer and made this amazing coat (that you can't see), but trust me, look at his info below.  I didn't get his friends' name but both were kind enough to let me snap a couple images, again sorry folks - no flash in museum so I hope you can see how fresh the style is.  His designs were a "work of art" for sure! (See more at fontantaJeanius.tumblr.com & on Instagram @fontanta_arte.)

Keith Haring died on February 16, 1990 from complications from AIDS at the age of 31.
