gallery nine5 Presents Summer 2014 Exhibition Featuring Graffiti Artists We All Love!

A refreshing, new gallery experience is taking place as we speak at gallery nine5 in Soho where the public is invited in to explore graffiti in the making during the course of four weeks.  Uncurated, unregulated, and unsellable, the gallery’s white walls are a blank slate for a select group of famed graffiti artists to adorn the clean white walls in to their own works of art.

"GROUP INK," is an exhibition that began on June 25th and runs through July 20th with a group block party/show taking place on July 17, 2014.   The event thus far has featured Tats Cre TATS CRU (Bronx, NY), Bisco Smith (Venice, CA), KET (New York, NY), adorning the walls and coming up this and next week are Shiro (Japan), Vor138 (Brooklyn, NY), and Rubin415 (Brooklyn, NY).  

You can stop in anytime during gallery hours (listed below), and see the whitewalls being transformed, tagged and painted with each artists building on their own and their fellow artists pieces.   The back room of the gallery will be dedicated to a small group show, where pieces by gallery nine5’s artists SHAKA, Alben, Tapp Francke, and Steve Ellis will be available for purchase.

"Broken English" Exhibit From CRASH at Jonathan Levine Gallery Opens!

Famed graffiti and gallery artist CRASH, has a new, vibrant exhibit entitled "Broken English" on view at Jonathan Levine Gallery.  In conjunction with the exhibition, CRASH has also painted a mural with The L.I.S.A. Project NYC, located on Suffolk between Stanton and Rivington Streets, which you can see a group of photos from the wall at the bottom of the post.

With over four decades of experience in graffiti, he is known and highly recognized as one of the first subway writers / artists to begin painting on canvas and exhibiting in galleries.  His early work in the 70's and 80's played a huge role in the development of graffiti and the evolution of the art movement.  He paints continuously and also speaks on many panels (Museum of the City of New York, City Lore, etc.) regarding the art form and the glory days of  "the trains."

An inspiring fact is that CRASH continues to create his works freehand, spray painting all of the images with bright colors.   "Broken English" features large canvases - some with neon sign advertising, a series of small works on paper and most notably upon entrance to the gallery, a vintage 1975 Mini Cooper that has been fully restored, detailed, customized and painted by the artist and is yes, is fully functional.

All of the works and the car will be on exhibit through July 26, 2014 at Jonathan Levine Gallery at 557C West 23rd Street (one of the gallery's two locations.)

One Night Not Enough For The TR3SPASS Gallery Show - See Marka27, Ian Kualii & Don Rimx's Latest!

A unique pop-up gallery exhibit took place last weekend with a "one night only" show featuring Victor "Marka27" Quinonez, Don Rimx and Ian Kuali'i at the Dumbo Spot in Brooklyn.  This show was so stellar it should be in a gallery hanging for the norm of at least one month, at the least.  The range of mixed media pieces, prints and designs were presented by M27 Designs with the three artists showcasing some of their very best, unforgettable works.  I hope this show comes back around to a gallery soon.
