"The Best of the Worst" Extravaganza from HANKSY!

Pun Recap: This past weekend one of big the exhibits, (I mean extravaganzas) we had all been awaiting took place on Delancey Street in the former Chase Bank by HANKSY entitled "The Best of the Worst."  The lines formed early in the afternoon with people traveling from Boston, Philly and Newark all happy to make the drive for this highly anticipated installation / exhibit.
The scene as the first arrive in line
Hanksy transformed this old space into a full street art and graffiti experience complete with a skate ramp decorated by top local artists, a Chinese massage parlor (yes), video games, a photo booth and a gallery.  Top New York based artists such as UR New York, Cope, Claw Money, Elle, B.D. White, Col, Meres, Frank Ape, The Drif, Magdna Love, Clint Mario, Miss Zukie and many more decorated the backdrop and contributed to the "GAGosian Gallery" theme in the back space.

Who is Hanksy you ask?  As we all know the art world can take itself way to seriously, that's where Hanksy comes in.  He is a street artist who is known for making a pun on the Banksy rat years ago, replacing its face with that of Tom Hanks (Banksy/Hanksy, get it?)  He has covered the streets with puns in writing similar to Banksy's style, but with serious wit and humor, and who doesn't need that.  Hanksy is now a huge brand, showing throughout the country and world spreading priceless yucks via celebrity-pun pieces.   Best of all he brings much needed humor to the art world.

If you didn't see the show and installations or it was just too crowded, now is your chance, just look below....

"Tools of the Trade" by Damien Mitchell Debuts at Low Brow Artique - All the Graffiti & Street Artist Needs Is Here!

Last week I had the great opportunity to watch a new wall go up outside of Low Brow Artique in Brooklyn by native Australian artist Damien Mitchell.  This wall coincides with his solo exhibit at the gallery properly entitled "Tools of the Trade," focusing on all of the tools graffiti writers and street artists needs to get the job done.  We start outside with the simplicity of this giant cap going up and taking shape as I love the work in progress, then head inside to the exhibits opening night.  All of the pieces are done in black, white and grey tones which is especially nice.  The show will run through the end of March 2015 and is located at 143 Central Avenue, Bushwick, Brooklyn.
Have a look at the work in progress and the stellar show...
