Art & Fashion Merge At London's Fashion Week: Canvasses on the Catwalk!

Left: Courtesy Getty Images; Right: Courtesy Wikipedia
Nicole Farhi drew inspiration from Gustav Klimt's "Adele Bloch-Bauer I" (1907) for her Fall/Winter 2012 collection
A mix of quirk and elegance came through in the shows that took place during London Fashion Week, along with several art-inspired collections. Alice Temperley drew from Renaissance paintings, sisters Annette and Daniela Felder took from Ryan McGinley’s cave photographs, and Erdem Moralioglu cited collector Peggy Guggenheim as his muse. ARTINFO puts forth a selection of London Fashion Week’s art-minded designs.

FASHION & ART'S FINEST MIX! Artist Rachel Feinstein's Spectacular Set Steals the Marc Jacobs Show!

Marc Jacobs Fall 2012
Courtesy Billy Farrell Agency
Sculptor Rachel Feinstein designed the set for Marc Jacobs's Fall/Winter 2012 show

This looks like one of the most amazing artistic-fashion shows for FW2012!  The Marc Jacobs tapped his friend, sculpetor Rachel Feinstein, to design what she told Style.com was “a broken castle. Marie Antoinette’s version of ruins,” for his fall/winter 2012 show last night. The breathtakingly immense construction paper scenery, complete with a fountain in the middle of the runway, served as an elegant backdrop for Jacobs’s collection. Subtle blue lighting illuminated the white set, which was rich with texture and depth. Sure, the collection, inspired by eccentric fashion journalists Anna Piaggi and Lynn Yaeger — think pilgrim-style rhinestone-buckle shoes, large furry Dr. Seuss-like hats by Stephen Jones, and lots of holographic embellishments and sparkly trims — was interesting to look at, but the real star of the show was Feinstein’s set.

Happy Valentine's Day!

I admit it, I'm not a big fan of Valentine's Day, but I am a fan of taking unique photos of those who are, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO WINDOW DESIGN!  These were taken at Juicy on Fifth Ave., NYC, February 2010. Yes, going back a few years but still appropriate as any effective window design is.  (P.S. My Extreme Fashion Window Designs In NYC book will be out in late 2012/2013.) Enjoy my take on Valentine's Day.

Adele opened up about the experience of being forced to stop singing for a time, gave insight into her "big personality," and shared her nervousness about hitting the stage at the Grammys. Presented by Istanbul-based creative agency, Instanbul '74, the show features Kopp's "sitting portraits" taken during Skype sessions with pals including Ryan McGinley and Waris Ahluwalia, both of whom attended the opening. Kopp's main squeeze, Tilda Swinton, as well as Agyness DeynOlivier TheyskensTerence KohJim Jarmusch, and Elvis Perkins were also in the house. The Sunday Times With Bill Cunningham - Fashion Week Collage!

It's Fashion Week and what better way to celebrate then to post Bill Cunningham's NY Times street style collage blog. Of course there are ten thousand fashion week pics I could post, but since the blog is JUST now getting up and running, I'm testing things out. With the amazing Fall 2012 looks being works of art" there is no shortage, just a shortage of my time...but I'll do my best! Visit www.nytimes.com style section for everything including schedules of fashion week.  The art section lists additional art parties as well. Cheers!

Louis Vuitton On Your Wall

Louis Vuitton Multicolor Handbag, from the series In Case it Rains in Heaven
by Kurt Tong

Art as fashion, fashion as art - exactly from the on-line art gallery that I love, www.20x200.com.  See today's art post here and get it for yourself starting at only $60 for an 11x14 print.

I love to mix fashion and art on my walls, (thus the blog), and learn how designers and artists blur the lines, working off each other. What's better than a wall of fashion inspired pieces from the ceiling to floor!
