Event Alert: 106 Bayard in Greenpoint Hosts Mural Unveiling & Block Party!

106 Bayard is a non-profit organization an art project designed to celebrate the art of graffiti.  On Saturday May 10, 2014 they will host a block party in Brooklyn at their 3,000 square foot building (located at 106 Bayard Street) with a live DJ, food and drinks, and transportation to and from the 2014 Frieze Art Fair.
Attendees will also get to witness the unveiling of the inaugural 106 Bayard graffiti mural.  Each year, a group of artists will be invited to paint the wall to reflect a theme. To kick it off, eight artists were tasked with creating a collaborative piece that pays homage to the subway and wall graffiti of the 1970s and '80s. Futura 2000, Cycle, Wolf 1 AOK, Dr. Revolt, Lady Pink, Team, Part One, and Jackson each put in work, and students from the Williamsburg Charter High School will make a contribution to the piece as well.
Here's a look at what I saw the other day, yes, murals covered for now!
The curators are Gee Dajani and Keene Carse, hosts of East Village Radio's Forty Deuce who are contemporary keepers of NYC pop culture. Their passion for the art, music and styles that shape the cityscape includes deep respect for, and relationships with, both legendary and emerging graffiti artists from around the globe.
