A Night At The Museum - Iconic Panel Discussed The Front Lines Of NYC Graffiti!

Last week The Museum of the City of New York presented another stellar panel event entitled On The Front Lines: Graffiti's Documenters with legendary photographers Martha Cooper, Henry Chalfant, Flint Gennari and Jon Naar. They each discussed their time on the front lines of the NYC graffiti movement as artist and author (of Graffiti 365), Jay J.SON Edlin moderated the conversation on documenting controversial graffiti writing throughout the 1970s and 80s in New York City.
It was priceless to hear the group sharing evocative images (a few slides below), and dramatic stories from the field.  We listened closely as they described tales of patiently waiting, watching, then climbing into train yards to obtain the perfect legendary photos. Thus, gaining the artists trust and respect.  Their obsessions lead their careers through these past decades and well into today as they continue to travel the world documenting this fine art.
The evening brought out many of today's most serious graffiti and street art documenters, bloggers, photographers and of course artists of today and those from many years past.  This was an evening of legendary iconic art history, if you missed it you can catch the next panel on July 9th, (information at the bottom of the post.)
